Learn About Flight Training

Another great site! This one's got some real "down to earth" stuff!

Aviator's Guide: Features - July/August 2003
What a neat calculator! Try any airplane, although you have to watch some of the costs. They're not consistent.

Ever wanted to learn to fly? You know, take one of those tubes with wings thousands of feet up near the clouds and escape everything? It's really quite a challenge and requires a real commitment.

So if it takes a commitment to learn to fly, imagine the dedication of that poor flight instructor!
Hours of take-offs, landings and turns around a point. . . and for what?

$30.00 an hour!

Let's take a look at this:

Piano lessons $24.00/hr
Drum lessons $20.00/hr
Ski lessons $35.00/hr
Golf lessons $75.00/hr

O.K. so maybe the industry is a bit underpriced for the associated risk. Can't we just raise our instruction price and be on our merry way?

Doesn't seem so.

Insurance, fuel, aircraft maintenance, weather, and of course the cost of the airplanes all play a part in the challenge of the flight school operator.

So we continue to struggle while we ponder new and re-created ways to endorse our decision to make a living teaching others what we love to do . . . fly!

Is there a quick fix? An easy answer?

Student loans?
Accelerated programs?
Cessna Pilot Centers?

Haven't figured it out yet. How about you?
